My name is Peter and based in Sydney, Australia.
This is my collection of photos taken from various airports with the majority taken at Sydney Airport. At present there are over 3400 (to be trimmed) images spread over various galleries. More will be added as I find more photos to scan and of course any new photos taken.
Please feel free to comment on any photos or provide corrections or suggest improvements etc.
Use the SEARCH function to look for a particular REGISTRATION.
My various trips to foreign ports are also included.
My first Digital camera was purchased in October 2003 with two more purchased over the next 7 years.
Purchased a new LUMIX G10 DSLR in December 2010 resulting in a vast improvement on image quality. Will start replacing lesser quality images over time.
Have started amalgamating some galleries into Airbus, Boeing etc., as some are getting quite large. Also reducing duplicates of a/c.
New Galleries created for Boeing Jets, Airbus Jets, McDonnell Douglas and Russian Airliners, Airline/Commuter Props, Regional Jets.

This helps regular (and new) visitors to see what's been added recently or since their last visit. My 'Chariots' : I have been very fortunate, through work and leisure, to have flown in a wide variety of aircraft both as domestic travel and international flights. Many of these aircraft are no longer around or was not able to photograph them. I tried to keep records of all registrations but not always successful although I do have a comprehensive list of all flights (through boarding passes etc). These records show over 140 flights with at least 90 different registrations and from my galleries I have been able to find nearly 40 of these. Most of my early flights in Australia were to regional airports and were mainly Fokker F-27 and Fokker 50 types. In 1992/93, through my work at Freedom Furniture, I flew many SYD-MEL, SYD-BNE sectors mostly with Ansett A320, B762 and the odd BAE-146. One-off trial with Compass 2 with a return MD80 flight SYD-MEL-SYD.

Boeing 717 : The Boeing 717 was derived from the McDonnell Douglas MD80 series and was designated the Boeing 717 when Boeing took over McDonnell Douglas. 156 717's were built before the 717 line was closed. Boeing honoured outstanding orders but took no new orders as it concentrated on its B737NG's. Impulse Airlines introduced the B717 to Australia in 2000/2001 with 8 a/c. Impulse Had financial problems later and were bought out/merged with Qantas who placed the fleet with Qantaslink. More 717's were acquired and eventually all were operated by the newly formed Jetstar. As Jetstar received sufficient A320's, the 717's reverted back to Qantaslink and a few were later sold to Hawaiian Airlines. The remaining 717 fleet now carries VH-NX* registrations and predominantly operate out of Perth and Adelaide.

Boeing 737 VH- registered : This gallery is for Australian registered B737's (over 200 so far with more to come) which have been used by a number of airlines including Ansett (ceased ops 2001) and Australian Airlines which merged with Qantas in the early 1990's. Current users are Qantas and Virgin Blue.

Early UK images : Images from the UK 1966-1972. Only a few found so far, a few negatives but still looking for any photos I can find. Before I lost this camera (left on a London bus one night) I took a few prints/slides but in these early days, cameras came with a standard 28 or 35mm fixed lens so most objects were too far away to get a close-up.

Exec - Global Express : Digital/scanned photos of Bombardier Global Express/Global 5000. The 5000 is slightly shorter than the XRS (0.8 m) and it also has a shorter range (2000 km less) Close to delivering the 400th unit. Bombardier have just announced plans for the Global 7000 and Global 8000 (primarily to compete with the Gulfstream 650 but a customer survey found that most wanted longer range whilst others wanted the largest cabin area avialable).

Kendell Regional Jets : Kendell Airlines were the first Australian Commuter airline to operate a fleet of Regional Jets. An initial order for 12 machines saw the first units arriving around August 1999 with deliveries continuing into mid 2001. Only 11 aircraft operated in Australia with VH-KDF being sold/leased to Eurowings in April 2001. With the collapse of Ansett, these aircraft became redundant and most (at least 9) aircraft were stored at Kendell's base in Wagga Wagga in September 2001. The 11 aircraft were VH-KJF,KJG,KJJ,KJN,KJQ,KJS,KJU,KJV,KJX.KJY and KXJ. The first sightings of operational aircraft in Sydney was around May 2000 and I manged to photograph about 5 out of the 9 logged. With news of their imminent departure overseas, I visited Wagga on Anzac Day 2002 to log the last 2 I needed and it was a sorry site to see these aircraft parked around the Kendell hangars having been there for almost 9 months. Most aircraft ended up with Mesa Airlines operating for United Express but quite a few of these ended up being reposessed/ stored. Currently there are over 2.500 Canadair/Dornier/Embraer Regional Jets around the world. In Australia over the last few years we have seen a few Embraer aircraft operate for SkyAirworld, Virgin Blue and now Air North.

Military, Warbirds, Airshows : A selection of military aircraft mainly snapped at airshows which are less frequent than they used to be. Most were taken at RAAF Richmond and Williamtown with some at RNAS Albatross (Nowra) for the 75th Anniversary of the Royal Australian Navy 1986. Also included are aircraft that have visited major airports. Military biz-jets are featured in the appropriate biz-jet galleries. Majority of images are scanned photos.

Sydney Olympic Games 2000 : Features airliners and exec jets that visited Sydney during the Sydney Olympics in Sept/Oct 2000. Apart from an ever changing executive jet scene we had several aircraft never seen in Sydney (or Australia at that time). Over 80 executive jets came and went over a period of a month. There were many departures on the 2nd October (the day after the games closed). During the games some bizjets parked at the jet base or GA area whilst a few parked at Bankstown. Others returned to 'base' and returned as the games came to an end. I have also included the biz-jets shown here in the approprate biz-jet galleries. Brisbane housed 4 airliners over this period. Airliners seen here included Malev B767, LOT B767, THY A340, SAA B744, Northwest B742, Lufthansa Cargo B747, Korean A330, Asiana B744, Air France B744, ATA L1011, EastLine IL62 and 2 IL-96's (one Aeroflot and one Domodedovo). Several airlines substituted larger capacity aircraft as well as additional flights to cater for visitors, athletes etc. Executive/VIP airliners included 3 BBJ's, 2 B707's, 2 B757's, MD83 and 2 Govt TU154's. Not games related, but Virgin Blue had just entered the Australian scene with 3 B737-400's and who would have thought that a year later Ansett would collapse!
